Westbound I-84 reopens after 10-hour closure due to three-vehicle collision, investigation

Westbound I-84 southwest of New Plymouth is back open after being closed for almost 10.5 hours Sunday while the Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle collision.

Idaho State Police say at around 5:30 a.m., a 30-year-old Caldwell man driving a 2009 Nissan Rogue was trying to re-enter traffic after being stopped on the right shoulder of Westbound I-84 when it struck a 2021 Freightliner semi driven by a 48-year-old North Carolina man.

Another tractor-trailer driven by a 49-year-old North Carolina man pulled off to the right shoulder to avoid hitting the other two vehicles when it slid down the embankment and onto its side.

The driver of the Freightliner and his passenger were transported to the hospital. There is no word on their conditions.

This incident is still under investigation.
